Greenly's wonderful book will no doubt greatly help to fix that. Sadly, Bullard is unknown to the vast majority of Americans, even those who are history buffs. Greenly, who writes very well, also adds new photos of Bullard, photos and data about the types of planes he flew and flew against, and more. Greenly builds upon two previous Eugene Bullard biographies - Craig Lloyd's " Eugene Bullard, Black Expatriate in Jazz-Age Paris" and the even earlier " All Blood Runs Red: Life and Legends of Eugene Jacques Bullard - First Black American Military Aviator" by Henry Scott Harris - while adding many intriguing stories about his life. As World War II approaches, French intelligence has him spy on the Germans. Post-war, Bullard settles down in Paris, marries Marcelle Straumann, buys and runs "Le Grand Duc" and becomes a focus of the jazz age.
